In this blog, we'll explore how to embrace your dark side and channel it into something meaningful and appropriate for you and your relationships. From sexual fantasies to suppressed emotions, we'll help you learn how to balance your positive traits with your less preferred negative traits and appreciate yourself fully. Let's dive in!
Disclaimer - Within this article, I refer to the dark side as perceived negative thoughts and feelings.
Become Aware That You Have a Dark Side
The first step to embracing our dark side is becoming better aware of our dark side by identifying those traits you frown upon in yourself and others.
Let's take a trip down the parts of our mind that hold the most uncomfortable feelings and list all the thoughts that have made you feel the following emotions.
Find somewhere comfortable to go through each of the following emotions. Pick one, then allow yourself to feel that emotion. Once you have felt it write down the first thought that comes to mind, then do this for every emotion.
Shame,
Fear
Guilt,
Disgust
Embarrassment
Disappointment
Frustration
Hurt
Emotional Insecurity
Boredom
Jealousy
Despair
Annoyance
Anguish
Rage
Resentment
Fatigue
I realise that going through all of these feelings right now may seem daunting, particularly if you're on the move, so Download My Workbook and do this activity when you have more time or are ready to go deep into those emotions.

Balance Your Dark With Your Light (Negative With Your Positive)
It was found that the average person has about 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. Of those thousands of thoughts, 80% were negative, and 95% were precisely the same repetitive thoughts as the day before.
I understand it can be challenging to be constantly surrounded by negativity, but remember that you can shift your mindset and focus on more positive thoughts if you are willing.
Instead of focusing on the 80% of negative thoughts that flow through our minds, Let's celebrate that 20% of those thoughts were uplifting.
And remind ourselves that it's completely normal to have negative thoughts. They can pop up in our minds no matter how we're feeling.
So, it is not the negative thoughts that are the issue here; our perception of those thoughts and labelling them as unfavourable in the first place becomes the issue. And it is only when we judge and push away or become overly consumed by those thoughts that they start to harm us.
So, let's focus on accepting and embracing all of our thoughts, both positive and negative, without letting them bring us down.
To do this, we must take every opportunity to understand and nurture these negative thoughts and counteract negative ideas with positive alternatives.
For instance, if you tell yourself "can't do something or something is too difficult", replace that with a positive alternative by telling yourself, "I am still getting the hang of this, and the more I learn, the easier this will become".
So start to bring forth negative ideas and balance them with positive thoughts to begin embracing your darkness.
